The porosity test of the paraglider is aimed at reviewing the technical condition of the material.
Porosity is the basic parameter which shows, that the paraglider is still suitable for use.
The test is carried out by using a porosimeter from the Swiss company JDC Electronic SA, the parameter determining air porosity is the JDC unit.
The MK2 Porosimeter is the best in the world so far, and delivers the best indications in terms of fabric quality.
Other manufacturers make similar porosimeters, however they are far from perfect in many ways.
That is why, the MK2 quickly became the benchmark for measuring paraglider porosity.

The working principle of the porosimeter is as follows:
A specific density of air is passed through the fabric to measure its quality.
Porosimeter measures the time of penetration of 0.25 liters of air through 38.5 cm2 of fabric at 10 mbar.
The result in seconds can be converted to liters per m2 per minute (l/m2/min).
The latest model of the MK2 porosimeter has an external addition, thanks to which we can reach the narrow cells of paragliders, especially competition ones with high aspect ratio.
A small external MK2 addition, allow access to a very narrow leading edge of your paraglider.
The MK2 model has become the standard model among porosimeters and provides the BEST indications, and has become the benchmark for measuring fabric quality.
It measures the degradation of fabrics, so that the pilot knows in which condition his paraglider is, and whether it is still suitable for safe flying.
If you want to check the paraglider porosity, do not risk testing on cheap porosimeters bought at Allegro, OLX, or some other websites.
Paraglider porosity test include the following steps:
Paraglider identification: nameplate, documents
Checking the porosity of fabrics: upper and lower surface of the paraglider, using a porosimeter from the Swiss company JDC Electronic SA
Inspection of the wing: this examination is aimed to find potential tears and cracks of the fabric
